I am often asked questions related to my prices, travel arrangements, delivery timelines and other coverage details. I've compiled the questions most commonly asked, here for you. I'm hoping you'll find these answers helpful. Please don't hesitate to contact me for clarifications, or if you have any questions not covered below.
There are two fundamental techniques to hotel and real estate photography. Both aim at producing an HDR (High Dynamic Range) photograph, compared to the limited dynamic range of a single shot produced by the camera.
The first technique, is basically bracketing 3, 5 or 7 exposures of an image, which are then automatically combined, either in-camera or using a dedicated software to produce the final HDR image. It is easy and fast, requires minimal on-location time and the software automates the entire post-processing. The problem with this method is that the resulting image is almost always overly saturated and looks surreal; not realistic at all. Nice for landscapes and cityscapes; not so nice for buildings and houses.
The second technique, the results of which you can see on my Architectural Photography webpage, is quite complicated and time consuming. It requires capturing multiple staged photographs (occasionally over 100) and many hours composing these in Photoshop by hand. The result, however, is a true to life picture with a wide dynamic range closer to what the human eye perceives.
You list two phone numbers, one in Athens and one Toronto. Which should we call? Where do you actually live?
Call whichever one you prefer, I will answer both. I am based in Toronto, but work out of Athens, as the majority of my work is in Greece, so you will usually find me there.
How far in advance should we schedule the photo shoot?
It is really up to you and the weather. If you need a radiant exterior of a fully lit building, taken at sunset when the light is just right, we need to work around the weather. I am usually available on weekdays at a day's notice.
How long will the photo shoot take?
On average it takes approximately two hours to photograph a house, less for apartments, more for buildings and much longer for hotels. The larger the home or building and the more amenities there are, the more time it takes. If I have more time available, I will produce better quality images.
Is there anything we need to do before the shoot?
I have compiled the following checklist, which would help make the final images stand out:
- Have everything in place and avoid having to move things during the photo shoot. If in doubt, consult an interior decorator. If that is not an option, I can help rearrange items and stage the scene, but it is time consuming and available light is always the most important factor.
- Replace any burned out light bulbs and try to use the same colour temperature (Kelvin) for all lights, as I will turn on every light.
- Remove all vehicles from the front of the home or building and mown the lawn. Garbage cans and recycling carts should be removed from the scene.
- Remove posters and flyers from walls, windows and doors.
- Remove any time specific or seasonal items.
- Make the beds and hide away anything that doesn't complement the scene, such as toiletries from the bathroom, clothes from behind the doors, photographs, magnets from refrigerators and toys. Also, remove all electrical appliances and pots from kitchen countertops. Ornaments and personal items should also be removed, as they are distracting to the viewer. Clutter is your enemy.
Can you Photoshop 'x' item out of the image?
While I'm quite capable of doing this, it is dishonest to misrepresent the property and I will not do any graphical manipulation that is untrue to the property being photographed for purposes of selling or renting. I do not charge extra for removing minor distracting details, or items interfering in the image that do not belong to that property, such as power cables. But, adding flowers to a pot or adding fire to a fireplace, for instance, requires time consuming editing that is expensive and delays the delivery of the final images. It is up to you.
What if the weather changes?
If the weather is poor, I will shoot the interiors and come back when the weather is better for the exterior(s). Interior images often benefit from overcast weather and I can create a blue sky in exterior images, if the session is for a twilight shot. But, I cannot recreate the natural shadows and contrasts of mid-day sunny shoot if the day is overcast.
Do you offer aerial (drone) photography?
Yes, I do, at an extra charge should the weather permit. Drones allow for an elevated perspective of the outside of the building or home and neighbourhood, which gives a better sense of the property or building. I use a DJI Mavic Pro copter that captures 12MP images and 4K video.
What are your rates?
I will quote for projects based on your specific requirements. This allows me to tailor your cost to the type of shoot, quality of image post-processing required, number of photographs you are expecting and their usage.
What is your payment policy?
Once we have discussed your needs, you will send me a brief. I will then prepare a quote based on your brief for the photography services. Once this quote is approved, you will be provided with access to the restricted area of this site where you can sign an agreement, pay for a deposit and receive an invoice for the services I will be performing. A deposit of 50% of the quote is due with the signing of the agreement, prior to the photography being performed. The balance of the invoice needs to be satisfied before the images are released. I provide a 100% guarantee. If I have made an error in fulfilling the brief, I will reshoot at no extra charge to correct it.
All of my billing can be done on-line. You can pay by Paypal, credit/debit card, Visa/MasterCard transfer, Interac, bank transfer or cash.
Any travel expenses incurred are billed simply by direct reimbursement for the costs. I am quite comfortable traveling for a photo shoot and I am accustomed with business travel.
I make an effort to create images at each and every wedding that reflects the relationships; both of each individual family and the new family being created that day. My goal is to provide you with a documentary styled illustration of your wedding day with minimal interference or posing. It's my intention to truly make images that capture the relationship between two people in love, as well as attempt to reflect their personalities. Personally, I love high contrast black & white photographs and tend to deliver a 50-50 balance of monochrome and colour. Images delivered in black & white are only available in black & white. If you'd like more colour images and less black & white images in your coverage, please let me know and I'll be glad to accommodate you.

Call whichever one you prefer, I will answer both. I am based in Toronto, but work out of Athens, as the majority of my work is in Greece, so you will usually find me there.
We wish to meet with you, but we don’t live in Athens or Toronto. Is there an alternative?
I would be happy to schedule a meeting over Skype, FaceTime or other online communication platform. Even local clients have done this! No matter your time zone, we can always find a time and method that works for you.
Are you the only photographer, or will there be more photographers at our wedding?
I mostly shoot alone with an assistant helping me with off-camera lighting and setups, but you do have the option of a second photographer. The second photographer would be responsible for providing a second vantage point on the ceremony and reception. Many weddings can be covered fully by myself and a second photographer is not necessary to complete the documentation of the day. Some weddings have many locations and guests, inevitable concurrent groom and bride preparations, or other reasons when a second photographer might be beneficial, but not absolutely necessary.
Do you offer videography?
I'm a photographer, and do not provide video services. On certain occasions I may shoot video, if time constraints are not tight, as a gift to the couple at no extra cost, but it is not guaranteed. In all honesty, videography is a craft on its own and videographers' artistic approach to filming and editing varies, as does with photographers. I recommend you search for a competent videographer in the same manner as you're doing for a photographer.
Do you offer aerial (drone) photography?
Yes, I do, at an extra charge should the weather permit. Drones allow for an elevated perspective and gives a better sense of the event. I use a DJI Mavic Pro copter that captures 12MP images and 4K video.
We are planning a destination wedding. How do we arrange your travel?
While having your wedding on a Greek Island or in Athens might be considered a destination wedding for you, it is not for me. There is no need for any arrangements on your end. Or, for any destination wedding, for that matter. In fact, if the destination is an international location I don't have in my portfolio, I will offer a very tempting special discount. I will book our own accommodation and transportation, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. Should you be staying at a hotel, I will book a room at the same hotel, provided you haven't booked the entirety of the hotel.
Travel expenses are billed simply by direct reimbursement for the costs. I am quite comfortable traveling for events and I am accustomed with business travel.
Will you travel for an engagement (pre-wedding) or day after (post-wedding) photoshoot as well?
My assistant and I, would be happy to come to your city or meet you at a fabulous destination of your choice. Please contact me for specific information.
Do you photograph details and family group photos?
A wedding photography collection would not be complete without quality details and family photos, although more and more couples opt-out of formal group shots for a more photo-journalistic approach. I will shoot all the must-have photographs you would expect out of any wedding photographer. But my aim is to go beyond your expectations and give you photographs that you never expected.
What information would be a good starting point for our first e-mail?
Let me know the date of your event and venue locations (ceremony - reception), approximate number of guests, if you want private photo sessions on the same day or the next day. Also, let me know if you have a wedding planner and anything you consider important.
What is your pricing?
I completely understand wanting to find pricing information without having to ask. I don't publicly list my rates for a couple of reasons. First, rates for a location requiring travel differ from local rates. Destination weddings are different, as well. Second, not all couples want all services or products. What I can tell you, is that I do not charge by the hour and there are no overtime charges. We'll start the day when you begin getting ready and we'll stay until most of your guests have left. If you'd like to obtain an offer, simply fill out the contact form with a few basic details and I will send you all of the information that you need. I promise to respond within a day.
How do you handle booking and payment?
Bookings are on a first come - first served basis. To reserve a date, I would require a booking/retainer fee of 25% of the total services fee and a signed agreement. You'll have two more payments after that. 50% of your balance will be due 8 weeks before your wedding date and the final balance due two weeks prior to your wedding date.
Payment for album upgrades, additional prints, etc. requested after signing the agreement, are all due post-wedding. If you have any concerns about the payment schedule, let me know. Payment can be handled through PayPal, Credit/Debit card, Visa/MasterCard transfer, Interac, bank transfer or cash.
I do not double book weddings or send other photographers in my place; I don't even book two weddings on the same weekend.
Should you have to reschedule and I am able to rebook the original wedding date, I will amend the wedding date you will receive credit for all monies already paid.
Should you have to cancel, the booking/retainer fee and all monies paid until cancellation are non-refundable as liquidated damages. The booking/retainer fee guarantees that I'll hold the date exclusively for you and I turn down all other prospective clients for that date.
How do we hire you?
Once we have talked about your wedding and finalised all the important details, I’ll send you a password-protected link where you can sign your contract and pay the retainer. Everything can be done online on this website and it takes just a few minutes.
Should I give you a shot list?
When you contact me about shooting your wedding, I will send you a questionnaire with all the information I would require for the day. I am very thorough with my coverage, including photos of your dress, jewellery, shoes, flowers, food and ceremony / reception decorations.
How many photos will we receive and how will we receive them?
There is no limit to number of photographs I take or deliver. Depending on the type of wedding, you can expect a minimum of 500 photos, up to 1500. It depends on many things, such as the number of guests, number of events or sessions, hours of dancing, and so on. On average I provide 800 photographs. Let me know what your plans are and I will provide you with a more detailed estimate.
When post editing of all the photographs has been completed, you will receive a link to download lower resolution copies from this website, so you can use them on social media and share them with your friends and family.
The final full resolution photographs will be provided on a USB flash drive along with any other items you requested (ie. wedding album(s), prints, etc.) when everything is completed.
When will we see our photographs?
Because I edit every single one of your photographs by hand and not just those that will go into your album, completion takes about 8 to 12 weeks. During the summer months when there is a higher work load, it could take a bit longer, but I do make an effort to deliver within 8 weeks. At that time, your online gallery will be made available for you to share with all of your friends and family and social media. I take care in making sure all your photographs will be edited to the highest standards and look great!
Will any of the photographs be watermarked?
None, ever! But if you would credit me on social media, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Can we have all the raw files? How about the copyright?
The raw, unedited files aren't available for viewing or purchase. The images selected for editing and final delivery reflect my high standards and the outtakes are discarded. Only the best one will make the final cut. Outtakes are the ones where eyes are closed, the flash didn't fire, someone walked in front of the camera, the camera mis-focused and duplicates. The images not selected aren't archived and therefore aren't available. Rest assured that any images not delivered are indeed outtakes. I will not reduce the number of images just to meet the minimum of delivered images, so every usable image is painstakingly edited and delivered.
In the contract, as well as the invoice, I include a "copyright release", which means you may have your images printed by yourself, or any lab of your choice. Don't confuse that with "obtaining" a copyright. Copyright simply means that I am the creator of the images, and I automatically "own" the copyright. Buying or acquiring the copyright is not possible, but you will have the ability to make unlimited personal reproductions and copies for your friends and families and share your images as much as you like. I do retain the copyright to the images and the right to use them for promotional purposes, competitions, professional reviews, and more.
Do you offer wedding albums? Who designs them?
Of course. I personally predesign the album layout for you. After I have finished the album design it will be added to your online gallery for you to review. From there we work together until you are pleased with the design. Once you approve the design, the album will take approximately 3-4 weeks to be produced.
Can you provide us with references of past clients to contact?
That is a reasonable question, similarly to applying for a job, where it is customary to list your previous places of employment as references. But unlike job searching, wherby prospective employers may call upon a reference once and would not be an inconvenience, prospective clients are many and those calls would be one too many. Thus, I don't provide client references to prospective wedding couples for the above reason and for a few more.
Any reference I would give you would be biased, since I would choose clients that I know would speak volumes about myself and my services.
I respect my clients' investment in my services and work, and could never ask a client to market me on their personal time.
In all honesty, I just don't feel comfortable asking clients to allow me to give out their contact details.
We were thinking of taking pictures in a nice location such as an archaeological site on our wedding day. Do we need a permit?
In general, permits are required only for commercial use of photographs taken on-site. So, taking personal photographs is allowed with no flash. But there is a caveat: if you want to have a photo session in your wedding gown and costume, it might be subjectively considered as inappropriate and we'll be asked to leave. If you are considering a location, just let me know and I will inquire and help you figure it out.
Do we need to provide you with a meal?
It's not a contractual obligation, but It would be appreciated and quite practical. No matter how photogenic a person might be, eating is not the most favourable position to be photographed and this is the best time for us to grab some food. A vendor meal is an option offered by many caterers. Just make sure to let them know we should be among the first to be served. This way, eating when you do assures our presence at the reception and we'll be ready to continue shooting as soon as you're finished.
Every baptism is unique and I will use all my ability to capture photographs that you will love to look back on for years to come. My goal is to provide you with a documentary styled illustration of your child's christening with as little interference as possible. My aim is to encapsulate the atmosphere during the service and reception. I am very thorough with my coverage, including photos of baptismal clothing, flowers, food and ceremony / reception decorations. If you are interested in enriching the day with a portrait session, please consider doing so prior to the ceremony, at home or elsewhere. Christenings are quite tiring for children and having a formal or candid session beforehand provides better results. As I personally prefer black & white photographs, I tend to deliver a 50-50 balance of monochrome and colour. Images delivered in black & white are only available in black & white. If you'd like more colour images and less black & white images in your coverage, please let me know and I'll be glad to accommodate you.
